🌟 Why curtains matter so much in Germany

Most German apartments don’t come with built-in rods or ready-made blinds. You are expected to install your own setup — and trust me, the right curtains can change your entire mood at home. Especially during:

• Long German winters (hello darkness at 4 PM)
• Hot summer months with surprisingly strong sunlight
• Neighbourhoods where everyone can see inside at night

Think of curtains as your privacy, your comfort, and your vibe — all in one fabric.

🧵 Step 1: Measure the German way (and avoid the #1 mistake)

Unlike many countries, German window sizes are not standard. So proper measuring is everything.

Instead of guessing, measure:

✔️ Height

Measure from the rod position to the floor.
For that luxurious, “hotel-style” drop, add an extra 10–15 cm.

✔️ Width

Your curtain should be 1.5x to 2x the width of your window or rod.
This makes it look full, elegant, and not stiff or flat.

Tip: Write your measurements in both cm and meters — German stores use both formats.

🔩 Step 3: Your wall type changes EVERYTHING

German walls are tricky. Before drilling, you MUST know your wall type.

🧱 Concrete Walls

Use Fischer UX or duplex anchors. These never fail.

🪵 Drywall (Rigips)

Use toggle / cavity anchors — regular screws will fall out.

🧱 Brick Walls

Standard screws usually work fine.

If you’re renting, check if drilling is allowed. Most landlords are fine with it as long as you patch holes later.

• Curtain rail or rod
• Brackets
• Screws & anchors (based on wall type!)

• Tools: Measuring tape + drill

If you choose quality fabric, expect to be on the higher end. But good curtains last years.
